Sharing this piece of history for a few that have asked and also to honor the memory of our old friend and bandmate, Duane Large.
incite existed in the southeastern PA Hardcore scene for a short time (2001-2002), played a number of local gigs, and was able to release one demo on super limited CD-R, "The Mechanics of Regret." Most of incite played together prior in the death metal band, Morbid Entree. Once that band folded on relatively good terms, we all went on to other projects, but we also eventually missed the great chemistry we had playing together.
Around the start of the 2000s, Evan and Jeremy joined forces again in the band XIII PFP, but we also had still kept in regular touch with our old Morbid Entree vocalist, Ned. When we would see each other at the area gigs, there was always some side discussion of doing a project together again. We were all still listening to heaviest hardcore bands from the time (Dysphoria, Hatebreed, A Death for Every Sin, No Retreat, Irate, Die My Will, etc.), but we also retained a love for our brutal death metal roots, bands like Internal Bleeding, Scattered Remnants, Deaden, and tons more. As such, we wanted to do something new that was just over the top heavy.
We had a few initial practices, and in no time had cranked out enough songs for both a demo and to jump on some local gigs in the Lansdale/Doylestown/Philly area. In need of a live bassist, Jeremy recruited his music school friend, Duane Large, who had mainly been a drummer for the Philly-area bands Life and Funeral Mask. With the live band solidified, incite played a quick string of shows with some of the best bands in our area, and to strong crowd reactions for a band that nobody had actually heard prior.
However, just as momentum had reached a peak, the band folded almost as quickly as it began. After many years, we still look back at this project and our lone demo fondly, and with minimal amounts of cringe. After almost 20 years, some parts on this still get me a bit riled up.
Thanks for reading about a bit of forgotten PA Hardcore history, and enjoy some tunes from the past!
